greetings
Hi there,
I am now
residing in CT SA.
My family left Muf
in 1960 and had
fond
memories of
their home town.
They always spoke
fondly of friends.
My dad
is Dennis
Bester 87 years
old and my late
mom was Hannah.
They had a
friend named
Basie and Jennie
De Waal in Muf and
have lost contact
for
many years. I
am afraid I was
too little to
remember much
except that they had I think 3
children. Please
advise how I can
trace them.
Kind regards
Gloria |

My
father Derrick
Robertson worked
on the copper mine
in Mufulira after
WWII until 1955.
He
married an
Australia war
widow, Patricia
Walrond ( nee
Martin) in 1948 in
South Africa.
After
their marriage
they lived in
Mufulira in I
think “H”
Avenue.
Their
2 eldest children,
Trevor & Joan
( that’s me)
Robertson were
born in Muf in
1949 & 1952
respectively.
In
1955 we moved to
Australia to live
where a third
child, Martin
Robertson was
born.
Derrick
worked on the
construction of
the BP Refinery in
Kwinana Western
Australia &
Pat, a registered
nurse worked with
the district
nursing service.
In
later years
Derrick & Pat
bought a farm in
Gingin, Western
Australia. This
farm was like a
mini African farm
with mealies
growing in the
fields &
guinea fowl
running around.
Derrick
& Pat later
moved to Cottesloe
WA where Derrick
died in 1998 from
cancer.
Pat
resided in a
nursing home in
the suburbs of
Perth but sadly
has dementia.
I
would like to hear
from anyone who
knew my parents.
I
live in Australia
& visit
remaining family
in South Africa
ever second year.

Subject: I was

Hello....My name
is Matthew, I was
born in Mufulira
in October 1958
and my
parents were born
in S. Africa. We
left N. Rhodesia
in 1961 and came
to
Canada and I have
become quite the
Canadian since
then. However,
there has been a
weird little
emptiness within
me since I cannot
remember my
birthplace except
through the
stories my
parent's have
told, and I have
always had a love
for Africa, either
through books,
movies,
documentaries or
stories, and so
little in any of
those media have
touched on Zambia,
and I have never
seen anything on
Mufulira except in
one documentary
about
Victoria falls
that mentioned Muf.
And when that
happened I was
thrilled in
an odd way to hear
my birthplace
mentioned. I've
been to S. Africa
3 times
to visit relatives
over the years but
never went north.
So, there I was
sitting at work
yesterday, bored,
staring at my PC,
thinking:
"What can I
Google?" Well
I Googled Mufulira
and lo and behold
there at the top
of the list was
this website. Man,
I poured through
the old
pix to see if I
could find my Mom
or Dad or Aunts
etc... but did not
find
them. My Dad
worked in the
copper mine and
played baseball.
His name is
Forbes Haw, was
born in S.A. in
1930.
I don't expect
much to happen
from sending this
note, but it feels
good to
have even such a
tenuous connection
with my birthplace
for a little
while.
This is just to
say "Hi"
anyway, and if my
father's name
rings any bells
that will be
cool.
Have a nice
day...Matthew |

Hi
to old friends and
acquaintances from
Muf,
My
name is Joan
Bergh, formerly
Thetford.
I
came to Mufulira
in 1962 with my
late husband
George, son
Graham, born in
England, and baby
daughter Lindy,
born in Salisbury
Southern Rhodesia.
George first
worked in the cocktail
bar at the Rec
club, old timers
may remember him
there, we lived in
a Mine flat
opposite the club.
He later worked
for contractors on
the mine, we moved
to Maybin avenue
and later to a
plot at Murundu
near the Congo
border. There I
kept horses and
George bred
chicken, turkeys
and grew
vegetables for
sale. I had
another son out
there, Peter, he
was delivered by
Drs George and
Betty Conolly, now
deceased, I am
sure they will be
remembered. If
anyone remembers
me it will
probably be from
the Muf Gymkhana
Club, I moved my
horses there after
George died
suddenly in 1970.
We had many good
friends there,
i.e. Henry and
Sally van Vuuren
who are now living
in Strand in the
Cape. We see them
when we can and
keep in touch by
phone.. I met my
present husband
Lorentz at the
club, he came to
Zambia from Norway
with NORAD and
taught at the
Adult Educational
Centre. My eldest
son Graham is
still in Muf, he
works for the
Samaras family at
Olympic Milling, I
still think of Muf
as home so I am
able to hear what
is going on from
Graham. I would
love to hear from
anyone who
remembers us.

address is P O
